The carol of the bells, disappears way to fast
A ghost of chapters ending, tells a story of the past
The replaying of my journey, the parts that made me smile
The moments and the seconds that stayed for just a while

The waking in the moment, the sober here and now
The second ghost applauding, as I take my silent bow
A shadow stirs my heart, as I feel pain that I survived
The gift of lessons past, now remind me I’m alive

The stillness of surrender, the relinquishing control
A peace that comes from ebbing, from the sprint into the slow
The mustering of future, the unlocking of the door
The glimmer of new sunsets, help to call me from the shore

The seconds fall to midnight, the fireworks explode
My ghost of living yet to come, is showing me the road
The world that has become me, makes me brave enough to start
The love I carry with me, whispers ‘listen to your heart’.

Christopher Anstee grew up in the hidden and isolated coal mining valleys of Wales. He struggled to conform with the limitations of his small world, and by the age of eight, he had already been confronted with intolerance and the ridicule of the very people he identified with most. Christopher was a child fuelled by an energy for all things bright and ostentatious, but he learned all too soon that those things were the very attributes that made you vulnerable and an outcast in this world, especially if you were a boy. With the brightest light in his little heart he strived to become who he truly was, despite the hurdles that faced him. 

Christopher spent his early days being labelled a queer and a queen by his bullies, but instead of trying to prove them wrong, he actually found his power in proving them right. He navigated his way through relationships, broken dreams and spectacular ambitions on a sometimes dizzy, dramatic, humour filled journey, to find that one thing we all want, fulfilment. Inspired by spirituality, humanity and a sprinkling of pop icons, Christopher battled anxiety, loss and the inner demons from his childhood to take control of his life, and to live it his way.

Polish The Crown is a powerful collection of memories, poems and beautiful illustrations that celebrate the extraordinarily ordinary life of a boy who grew up under the shadow of section 28.  A boy who became a proud gay man, despite the life and times that once defined him.  

Today has been a great day! Today I found out that Polish The Crown has charted in the Lgbtq+ Best Sellers list in the U.K. at No.7. In addition I am thrilled to also find out that Polish The Crown is No.26 in the Best Seller Biography Chart alongside amazing people like Stephen Fry and Graham Norton! I am thrilled beyond words. I met David Beckham yesterday while in the queue to pay my respects to The Queen. It was a somber but good day but meeting David certainly lifted our spirits. A true gentleman. 

This is the poem Little Leaf.  Little Leaf was the first poem written for the book, Polish The Crown and was inspired by the bond of love and the terrifying potential of losing the great love of your life.  Little Leaf was written in Essex, England in 2016.  The beautiful art work for Little Leaf was produced by Barbara Ana Gomez in London 2018 - Concept by Christopher Anstee, poet and Author.  Polish The Crown is available from Amazon worldwide and contains Little Leaf and more beautiful poems and illustrations.

This is the poem Little Leaf.  Little Leaf was the first poem written for Polish The Crown and the poem is about overcoming the fear of loss by surrendering to the beauty of a moment, the power of now 🍁❤️🍁 

Little Leaf was written in Essex, England in 2016.  The beautiful art work for Little Leaf within the book, was produced by Barbara Ana Gomez in London 2018 - It remains one of my favourite illistrations and was corrected 3 times to get the kindness in the trees face just right ❤️
